Songwei Zhang, Ph.D., is an Associate Professor and Master/PhD Supervisor at the School of Computer Science and Engineering, Northeastern University. His main research directions include Internet of Things (IoT) Architecture, Network Topology Control, Topology Robustness Optimization, Artificial Intelligence, Quantum Computing, etc. He uses new methods combining quantum computing and machine learning to address the key challenge of poor robustness in massive device networking brought about by the large-scale development of the IoT. He has published over 20 academic papers (including 8 CCF-A papers and 2 SCI-I papers) in top international SCI journals and top international conferences such as IEEE/ACM ToN (CCF-A), IEEE TMC (CCF-A), IEEE IoT Journal (SCI-I), IEEE Wireless Communications (SCI-I), IEEE Network, and IEEE ICC. He has won the Best Student Paper Award at the WASA 2025 conference, applied for 9 invention patents and authorized 3 invention patents. He wrote the world's first academic monograph on IoT topology robustness, published by Springer. The number of online downloads has exceeded 45,000. As the project leader, he has presided over one sub-project of the National Key Research and Development Program; as a key project member, he has participated in five national-level/provincial-level projects such as the joint fund project of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, the original exploration project, the key project of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the National Natural Science Foundation of China's general project, and scientific and technological projects of the State Grid Tianjin Electric Power Company. He has built an industrial IoT comprehensive perception platform, which has passed the test of the China Industrial Internet Research Institute and obtained CNAS certification. He served as a reviewer for top international SCI journals such as IEEE/ACM ToN, IEEE TMC, IEEE IoT Journal, IEEE TNSE, IEEE Wireless Communications, and IEEE Network, as well as reviewers for international conferences such as IEEE ICPADS 2022, ICC 2024, CSCWD 2024, and CSCWD 2025, and the chairman of the IEEE SmartIoT 2023 chapter. Currently, he is a special issue editor for the international journal IEEE Network and the deputy secretary-general of the Internet of Things and Big Data Working Committee of the Liaoning Internet Society.
I am accepting applications of doctoral and master's candidates for the 2026 academic year. Prospective students with backgrounds in computer science, software engineering, artificial intelligence, or closely related disciplines are welcome to contact me via email.
