Guo Jiateng, born in December 1980 in Tongcheng, Anhui Province, is a Professor and Doctoral Supervisor. He graduated from Northeast University with a Bachelor's degree in Surveying and Mapping Engineering in 2003. He received his Master's degree in Structural Engineering (Surveying direction) from Northeast University in 2006, and his Ph.D. in Mining Engineering (Digital Mine direction) from Northeast University in 2013. Since April 2006, he has been teaching in the Department of Surveying and Mapping Engineering, School of Resources and Civil Engineering, Northeast University. He is also a Visiting Scholar at the University of Western Australia.

He holds several academic positions, including member of the Virtual Geographic Environment Professional Committee and the Digital Energy Professional Committee of the Chinese National Committee for the International Society for Digital Earth (CNISDE); member of the Smart City Working Committee of the China Society for Surveying, Mapping and Geoinformation; member of the Mathematical Geology and Geoinformation Professional Committee of the Geological Society of China; member of the Big Data and Mathematical Geoscience Professional Committee of the Chinese Society for Mineralogy, Petrology and Geochemistry; Executive Director of the Geoscience Data Branch of the National Industrial Statistics Teaching Research Association; Editorial Board Member of Geography and Geo-Information Science; and a reviewer for over 20 domestic and international academic journals.

His research focuses on theoretical methods and software development for 3D geological modeling and visualization, with applications in digital mines, digital geological surveys, and digital cities. He has led three projects funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China (General and Young Scholar Programs), 15 national and provincial projects (including a sub-topic of the 863 Program), and over 30 technology development projects commissioned by state-owned enterprises such as the China Geological Survey, MCC Group, and Ansteel Mining. His proposed implicit 3D geological modeling method based on HRBF and the developed GeoMetis-SubCity3D software for large-scale urban 3D geological modeling have been widely applied in cities such as Shenyang, Zhengzhou, Nanning, Tianjin, and Jinan. His proposed methods for rock mass structural feature recognition and stability analysis in open-pit slopes using point clouds, and the developed GeoMetis-Slope3D software, have been extensively used in over ten open-pit mines domestically and internationally.

He has authored or co-authored over 100 papers in domestic and international academic journals, which have been cited more than 1,700 times (over 600 times in SCI). Among these, he is the first/corresponding author for over 20 SCI papers (18 in JCR Q1, 9 in CAS Tier 1 TOP journals). He has also co-authored one English book and three Chinese books. He holds 16 software copyrights and 10 authorized invention patents. His achievements have been recognized with one first-class, four second-class, and two third-class provincial and ministerial awards, including the China Geographic Information Science and Technology Progress Award. He has been named a CNKI Highly Cited Scholar (Top 5%) for 2024 and 2025.
