Zhang Zicheng, a PhD of Engineering, is working as an associate professor of the School of Mechanical Engineering and Automation of Northeastern University. Dr. Zhang is also a member of Jiusan Society, International researcher and visiting scholar of University of Tokyo and a visiting researcher and visiting scholar of Capital University of Tokyo. In addition, Dr. Zhang is a member of the editorial board of the international journal Mechanical and Electronic Control Engineering and Precision Forming Engineering. He is also the reviewer of many academic journals such as Materials and Design, Steel Research International and Australian Journal of Mechanical Engineering. Dr. Zhang mainly engaged in research on micro-nano structure property control and characterization of degradable metal tubes for vascular stents, development and design of surgical and medical machinery, metal micro-manufacturing process and equipment, development of lightweight materials and structural optimization for low‑altitude heavy‑payload aircraft, forming process and simulation of lightweight key parts of new energy vehicles, etc. Dr. Zhang presided over 8 Government-Aided Scientific Research Projects as a Principal Investigator, such as Grant-in-Aid for Young Scientists(B) of JSPS, grant from the National Natural Science Foundation, grant for New Teachers from the Doctoral Program Foundation of the Ministry of Education, grant for returning students from the China Scholarship Council, basic business and research funds of central universities, Natural Science Fund of Liaoning Provincial Education Department, and Talent Introduction start-up Fund of Northeastern University.

During the period of doctoral study, Dr. Zhang has been to the Department of Mechanical Engineering of Tokyo Metropolitan University as a visiting scholar in October 2008 to engage in two-year scientific research work. After obtaining doctoral degree in April 2011, he was invited to Tokyo Metropolitan University, Japan working as a Project Researcher. In December 2012, Dr. Zhang start to work as an associate professor in the School of Mechanical Engineering and Automation of Northeastern University by talent introduction. In March 2013, Dr. Zhang was appointed as a visiting researcher at Tokyo Metropolitan University. In October 2017, Dr. Zhang was appointed as an international researcher at the University of Tokyo, Japan. Dr. Zhang has been published over 50 papers in academic journals, such as Materials Science and Engineering: A, Materials Characterization, Materials Transactions and Steel Research International et.al and other famous international academic conferences. More than 20 of them were included by SCI and EI. Dr. Zhang participated in MetalForming2010 and International Conference on Advances in Materials and Processing Technologies 2012(AMPT2012), Japan Plastic Machining Society Conference, Tube Hydroforming and other international academic conferences nearly 20 times, published more than 20 academic papers. In addition, Dr. Zhang has applied for nearly 20 invention patents, and has obtained 10 authorized invention patents. In 2023, Dr. Zhang won the Favorite teacher of Undergraduate Graduates in the 18th Graduate Favorite Teacher selection activity of the School of Mechanical Engineering and Automation; Dr. Zhang won the Liaoning Graduate Teaching Achievement Award In 2022, and the Liaoning Province Natural Science Academic Achievement Award in 2017, respectively. In 2015, Dr. Zhang was awarded the JSTP Young Researchers Award by the Japanese Plastic Machining Society.
